The Best Of: Beauty Books

Whether you spend hours pouring over the pages of these beauty bibles or if they are simple coffee table accessories, beauty books are a wonderful thing to own and to give. Beauty is something that no matter how much you know, there is always more to learn and different ways to do things. I adore flicking through their pages, picking up new tips and marvelling at the gorgeous imagery. They are brimming with advice on everything from makeup and hair to skincare and nail-care tips, from beauty-industy experts and YouTubers.

Here are a few beauty books that you should add to your collection:

This is easily one of my favourite easy reads. Co-written by four girlfriends, Caroline de Maigret, Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan and Sophie Mas the book is a compilation of their thoughts on everything from dealing with troublesome men to "A Mother's Advice on Love" and Hosting a Dinner Party.

Their honesty and direct approach to life is so refreshing and kept me giggling from the moment I picked it up, to the second I put it down. It is a lovely easy read, perfect for all those times when you need a boost in self belief and maybe a different, Parisian, way of looking at things.

The Guardian's Beauty editor, Sali Huges decodes the mysteries of the beauty industry, in this wonderful beauty bible, with chapters on everything from dealing with beauty counter staff, to the advantages and disadvantages of waxing. There is a level of detail and honesty in the practical advice that Sali provides, which combined with her humour and wit, makes this book my go to for expert  beauty advice and product recommendations.

This is a wonderfully presented makeup manual that is perfect for everyone from professional makeup artists to the complete makeup beginner. Although all the products mentioned are, of course Bobbi Brown, the tips and tricks she shares can be applied no matter what brand you use! With tips on everything from applying eyeshadow perfectly, bridal makeup and fake tanning to breaking into the industry as a makeup artist, this is a lovely addition to any beauty obsessed bookshelf.

I have been watching Lisa Eldridge's YouTube videos forever, so when I heard she was releasing a book I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Face Paint offers a fascinating insight into the history of makeup. Detailed research, combined with gorgeous images make this the perfect book for both the beauty obsessed and those with even a tiny interest in cosmetics. Eldridge explores the reasons behind why we wear makeup, how it has changed throughout history and the impact that it has upon our lives today. She also talks about her own beauty icons, from Cleopatra to Kate Moss. It is a book that is joy to have on your coffee table, because of the amazing photography and one that you will actually want to read from cover to cover.

Having been a subscriber to FleurdeForce's YouTube channel since she first started making videos, I would have bought this book just to support a wonderful woman who smashes everything she does.

It is beautifully presented and discusses lighthearted topics such as "How to Travel in Style" and "Trends vs Investments". I love the simplicity and easy to follow nature of the beauty tips that Fleur shares, after all where are we without the basics? It is a lovely book to flick through for beauty advice whenever you are in need of it. It also makes a great gift for anyone you know who is an aspiring beauty junkie!

What beauty books have you been loving recently?

xoxo
